George was the only child of Jacob Englebright Knudson and Emma Wilhelmina Herbster.
He married Anne Winifred Michaeline Delaney in 1929 in Wisconsin. They had 3 children: Joanne, Mary and Theresa. George and Anne divorced, and he married Mae Barker in the 1950's. George and Mae had no children together.
George was well known for his quick wit and goofy sense of humor. He was a journalist later in life and was especially loved by his grandchildren for the funny little rhymes he'd write in birthday cards.
