Delmar Lee Edwards passed away peacefully on August 1, 2018 in Kingsport, TN.

Delmar was born at home in Coeburn, Virginia on May 3, 1940. He was a football player for Coeburn High School, an experience of which he was fond of telling stories in his older years. After high school Delmar attended Clinch Valley College in Wise, Virginia.

During his time at Clinch Valley College, Delmar worked as a lifeguard at Lonesome Pine Lake. It was in this capacity that he met the love of his life, Patricia Greene Edwards, who became his inseparable companion in marriage for 56 years.

Delmar worked for 33 years at Eastman Chemical Co., retiring as a supervisor in the Power & Services Department. For over 35 years, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Kingsport. Delmar was also a lifelong lover of music and a “regular” at Leonard’s Pickin’ Parlor in Scott County, Virginia. He took pains to instill in his children, Suzanne, Steve, and David, as well as his grandchildren, the same love for music that animated him.

Delmar was a beloved father and grandfather who left a special mark on each of his children and grandchildren’s lives. The lessons he imparted will not be forgotten, nor will his special wit and sense of humor.

Delmar is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia Greene Edwards. He is also survived by his children Suzanne Edwards Hayward and husband Dan, Steve Edwards and wife Tracey, and David Edwards and wife Stephanie, and his ten grandchildren. Delmar’s grandchildren are, from oldest to youngest: Stephen Bradley Edwards, Thomas Patton Edwards, Daniel Andrew Hayward, Ethan Edwards Hayward, Christian Lane Edwards, Philip Reene Edwards, Wesley Nathan Hayward, William Patrick Hayward, Noah Gordon Edwards, and Audrey June Edwards.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday at First Baptist Church. The service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating.

The graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.
