Hermaleigh “Herbie” Roberts Vannoy passed from this world to Heaven on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. Herbie was born on June 7, 1925 in Portales, N.M. to Henry C. and Alsie Roberts, but lived most of her life as a true Texan. She married C. Dayle Vannoy on November 6, 1950 and lived in Lubbock, raising their three children.
Herbie spent her last 35 years in business as a realtor. The Lubbock Board of Realtors named her Realtor of the Year in 1995. Texas Monthly named her a “Super Agent” in 2005.
Herbie was an avid bowler for forty- five years and served as the first President of the Lubbock Women’s Bowling Association and Member Emeritus of the Texas Women’s Bowling Association. She was named to the Lubbock Women’s Bowling Hall of Fame in 1978.
She was a member of the Junior League of Lubbock, Delta Gamma Fraternity, the Lubbock Symphony Guild and the Women’s Association of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce. Herbie loved to watch Red Raider Sports and talk politics.
Herbie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, brother and sisters. Her three children survive her: Sharla Jones of Lubbock; Vicki Nixon (Benny) of Lubbock and Vance Vannoy of Dallas. Grandchildren include Coby Jones (Michelle) of Lubbock, Mindy Wilkins (Ollie) of Lubbock, Eliott Nixon (Laura) of Lubbock, Vanessa Mobley (James) of Little Rock and Candace Nixon of Austin. Seven great grandchildren and special nieces and nephews survive her.
