TIMONIUM, Md. - Services for Donald R. Burke, Jr., 80, were held Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at St. Joseph's Church-Texas in Timonium. Interment was in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.

A native of New Iberia and resident of Timonium, Mr. Burke died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Burke graduated from St. Peter's College (Catholic High School) in New Iberia and attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute (University of Louisiana, Lafayette) until his service in the military.

He was a member of the 156th Infantry Division, Louisiana National Guard, when it was federalized in 1940. After being commissioned 2nd lieutenant in the infantry, he served in both the Pacific and European theaters in World War II, ending the war as a 1st lieutenant in the 42nd (Rainbow Division) in Europe.

Following the war, Mr. Burke started his career with American General Insurance as an adjuster. He retired nearly forty years later, as senior vice-president of Maryland Casualty Insurance.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, six sons; two sisters, a brother and 12 grandchildren.

Mr. Burke was preceded in death by his parents, Donald R. Burke Sr. and Celeste Dimitry Burke.
