Air Reservist and co-pilot of the C-46 transport plane which exploded in flames shortly after taking off from Myrtle Beach, S.C., killing all aboard. Captain Carpenter was a member of the CAA Control Tower at Palm Beach International Airport, where he was a traffic controller. A native of Coudersport, Pa., he served with the AAF in World War II at Morrison Field and Boca Raton, later going overseas as pilot of B25. He was shot down over France and served 22 months in a German prison camp. He was survived by his wife, young son, parents, and two brothers.
