According to a letter written by George Howdyshell in 1999, Adam and his wife Mary Bainter Howdyshell left Virginia around 1824 and came to Hocking County Ohio and then moved to Perry County. George's Aunt Phoebe ( Adam Howdyshell's granddaughter )told George that Adam and Mary were buried in Webb Summit cemetery. George and his son and grandsons walked the cemetery several times and found sunken places. Many people were buried in a rough box over the casket and when the wood decayed and the dirt fell in it left a sunken place. Adam's death is probably after 1830.
