William Henry Fengel 1933 - 1996

William "Bill" H. Fengel, son of Hans H. and Margaret Knapp Fengel was born on January 12, 1933 at Quincy, in Adams County, Illinois and died there, on September 2, 1996 in the hospital of the Illinois Veteran,s Home at Quincy, Adams County, Illinois, aged 63 Years, 7 months and 20 days. He is buried in the Sunset Veterans Cemetery, in Division 20, Row 6, on the grounds of the Illinois Veterans Home. He worked for years in the field of Illinois Agriculture and was for many years involved with the Quincy American Legion Post #37 Drum and Bugle Corps as Musical Director/Arranger and Drill Instructor, he also served as the Drum Major for the Post #37 Quincy Trojans Drum Corps from 1956 to 1958. Bill was a Veteran of the US Navy and served as a Recruiter for the US Naval Reserve Center at the Naval Armory on front street in Quincy from 1955 to 1972. When the US Navy closed it's facility at Quincy, Bill moved to Galesburg, Illinois where he met and married Blanche Downard on October 9, 1971. After he retired, he and his wife moved back to the Quincy, Illinois area and purchased a home on the south side of Quincy, where he and his wife Blanche resided until his death in 1996.

Bill Fengel

William H. "Bill" Fengel, age 63, of Luxury Lane, died at 1:30 a.m., Monday, September 2, 1996 in the Illinois Veterans Home.
Born January 12, 1933 in Quincy, Mr. Fengel was a son of Hans H. and Margaret Knapp Fengel. He married Blanche Downard on October 9, 1971 in Galesburg. She survives. Mr. Fengel was a 1951 graduate of Quincy High School and also studied at Quincy College, Iowa Wesleyan and the University of Illinois. He was a salesman and district manager of the sales training department of Moorman Manufacturing Co.
Later he was an area manager for Corn Seed Corn Co. and Regional Supervisor for the Cargill Corp. He then became Sales Manager for C. D. Perkinson Agricultural Suppliers. He wrote numerous articles for agricultural publications and magazines.
Mr. Fengel was co-founder of the Quincy Flying Dutchmen, the Quincy Trojans and the Rockford Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps and served as Musical Director, Bugle and Drill Instructor. He was a member of the All-American Drum Majors and All-American Judges Associations, and belonged to the National Association of Composers, Arrangers and Producers.
Mr. Fengel was a member of the United Methodists Church and served in the Navy from May 28, 1955 to July 2, 1972 and the Naval Reserves, having been a recruiter.
Survivors also include his stepmother, Dorothy Fengel of Quincy; four sons, Rick and Daren Fengel, both of Wichita, Kan., Brent Fengel, of Ft. Smith, Ark., and Scott Fengel of Cave City, Ark.; two step-daughters, Mrs. James (Vicky) Goff, of Knoxville, and Mrs. William (Jackie) Ryder of Minneapolis; six grandchildren, Clint and Pamela Goff of Knoxville and Cassandra, Rebecca, Michelle and Jeremy Fengel, all of Cave City.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church or the Charity of the donor's choice.
