Margaret H. Carlton
October 15, 1924 - July 30, 2018

Margaret H. Carlton died July 30, 2018 at her home at the age of 93. She was a lifelong resident of Fort Pierce.

She graduated from Fort Pierce High School in 1942. She was a cheerleader and had fond memories of her high school days.

She married her late husband Reuben W. Carlton in 1943 and they happily completed their family with their son Wayne and daughter Peggy.

Margaret was a savvy businesswoman and together she and Reuben built a successful construction company and eventually a ranching legacy. She gained her knowledge and passion for the cattle business from her beloved parents Nathan (Teat) and Mary Holmes, true Florida pioneers.

Flying and traveling were two of Margaret’s favorite hobbies. Reuben would pilot their plane and Margaret would co-pilot and navigate on their trips, as well. They made quite a team! Margaret also enjoyed time with friends and family. In the early years, she loved to entertain and go dancing. She sure could dance!

Margaret was a beautiful lady, a devoted wife, a loving mother and a special grandma. She will be missed beyond measure and will forever be in our hearts.

The family has chosen to have private family service and request that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Florida Cattlemen’s Foundation.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Nathan and Mary Holmes, sister Vieva Holmes Hardie, brother Lavern Holmes, husband Reuben W. Carlton, son Reuben Wayne Carlton.

She is survived by her daughter Margaret “Peggy” Talbot (Cecil), Grandson Reuben Wesley Carlton (Tracy), granddaughter MaryAnne Carlton Cruse (Chuck), and granddaughter Rebecca Talbot Strickland (Bill). As well as her great-grandchildren Carianne Strickland, Tristan Strickland, Reuben Wyatt Carlton (Emily), Colby Carlton Maxwell (Mark), Griffin Cruse, and Anna Paige Cruse.
