Marian (“Billie”) Florence Goeltz (Hale), 87, our dear mother and grandmother, passed away on July 30, 2018, in Cedar City, Utah.
Marian was born June 9, 1931, in Salt Lake City to Marian Story and Francis Boydell Goeltz. Marian spent many of her early years riding horses and many summers at her family’s cabin on the Snake River. She attended Rowland Hall from which she graduated in 1949. She attended Stephen’s College in Columbia, Missouri, and later obtained a B.A. in Music Theater from the University of Utah. She married Clarke B. Lium on August 12, 1956, later divorced.
Marian was a successful insurance agent for Travelers Insurance where she received numerous national awards and accolades for her sales and professionalism. She was an accomplished horsewoman who won national jumping competitions as a young woman. She was also a very talented lyric soprano who often graced church services with her strong and soaring voice.
Marian’s first and great love, however, was being the mother of her three daughters. She devoted her life and energy to raising her daughters and delighted in their accomplishments. She resided in Park City, Utah, for 22 years. She was a member of the Creekside Christian Fellowship in Park City, Utah, prior to moving to southern Utah in 2017.
Marian is survived by her daughters Terri Spelman (Ken) of Park City, Utah and Kirsten Hofeling (Blaine) of Cedar City, Utah as well as 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Eleanor Anderson of Great Falls, Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Cathy Louise Lium and her brother Francis Story Goeltz.
A viewing will be held Thursday August 9th, at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park (3401 S Highland Dr.), 6-8 p.m. with funeral services on Friday August 10th at 11:00 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church (2375 E 3300 S).
