Joseph is a son of Joseph Williams Golightly and Mabel Card Chatterton - the eldest of their eight children. He grew up in Preston, Idaho.
Joseph married Pearl West on February 13, 1924 in Pocatello, Idaho. They became parents to one son, Richard. After Pearl's death in 1965 he lived in California with their son.

Joseph Emery (Dick) Golightly, 78, died December 16, 1981 in Perris, California.
He was born March 10, 1903 in Preston, Idaho to Joseph W. and Mabel Chatterton Golightly. He married Pearl West on February 13, 1925.
He was a member of the LDS Church.
Survivors: son, Richard T., Torrance, California; grandchildren, Dr. Richard T. Jr., Arcata, California, Dr. Marc G., Durham, North Carolina, Mrs. Craig (Jana) Wegner, New Millford, Connecticut; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, one sister.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
