Jacob Smith was born in Warren County, Tennessee in 1824 to James B. & Rebecca Celia Brown. He served in the 35th Tennessee Infantry during the war, being discharged in December of 1862. He was the husband of Loudicia 'Dicy' (Taylor) Smith. Sometime later in life, he relocated to the Sugar Loaf area of Boone County, near present day Lead Hill, where he died in 1896 and was originally buried in the Manley Cemetery. His remains were moved to the present location when the lake was constructed. On the list of burials in the Manley Cemetery, he is listed as 'Jacob Smith' and his wife listed as 'Mrs. Jacob Smith.'
