Benton Woods Shirey, 82, of RD 1 Rimersburg died Tuesday morning, Aug. 28, 1984, in Elk County Hospital, following a brief illness. Born April 19, 1902, in Toby Township, he was a son of the late Benton and Margaret Henry Shirey. He was married Dec. 11, 1951, to the former Irene J. Watson, who survives. Mr. Shirey was affiliated with the Rimersburg Wesleyan Methodist Church. He was a retired Clarion County coal miner and self employed farmer. In addition to his widow, he is survived by one brother, Arthur L. Shirey of Rimersburg, and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Clifford and Marvin Shirey, three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Kuhns, Mrs. Blanche Delp, and Mrs. Leota Kelly, preceded him in death. Services were at 2pm Thursday (today) from the Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home in Rimersburg, J.D. Miller, supervisor. The Rev. J.C. Himes, retired Wesleyan Methodist minister, and the Rev. Timothy Eyring, of the Ridgeway Church of the Nazarene, officiated. Burial was in Churchville Cemetery.
