Murray Edison Antley, 93, of Orangeburg, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017, at the Regional Medical Center. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 10, at Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Reverend Ryan Tucker and the Reverend Marvin Clark officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Murray was born July 23, 1924, in the Canaan community of Cope to the late Thomas Raysor Antley and Agnes Bozard. He was a graduate of Cope H.S. 1941 and Cincinnati College of Embalming 1947 (cum laude). He was a Navy veteran of World War II, having participated in D-Day, Normandy invasion. Murray was a retired funeral director and embalmer with 48 years at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home and retired manager of Memorial Park Cemetery. He was a former member of the S.C. Funeral Service Board. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Tom Bell Sunday School Class, former deacon and usher, former member and secretary-treasurer of Orangeburg Exchange Club, and former chairman of Orangeburg Selective Service Board #38 (Orangeburg, Calhoun, Bamberg and Allendale counties). He was also a life member of V.F.W., American Legion and a life member Progress Masonic Lodge and Shriner Omar Temple. Murray loved fishing and yard work, the latter being a phrase which actually meant "looking for bait." He was gifted with a photographic memory and was a walking encyclopedia of people and their genealogy in Orangeburg County. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Evelyn Holland Antley; two daughters, Dale A. Clark (Marvin) of Orangeburg, Miriam A. Clark of West Columbia; two sons, Murray Edison (Edde) Antley Jr. of Orangeburg and Gregory H. Antley of Swansea; three grandchildren, Christopher Adden Clark, Walter Edison Clark (Wynde) and Austin Murray Clark; two great-granddaughters, Whitley and Weslyn Clark; and a number of nieces and nephews.
