Henry Marcus Griffith was born on 29 July 1883 in Relief, North Carolina, the son of John Griffith (1840-1903) and Sarah "Sally" Langhorne Griffith (b.1847). He was married to Nellie J. Halloway (1893-1991) on 6 December 1908 in Ramseytown, NC. They had several children. He worked as a laborer and a farmer. He died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on 21 December 1932 in Bradshaw, NC at the age of 49. He was interred at Tipton Griffith Cemetery.
