CHATFIELD BEREAVED.

Death of Robert Newton Etnier, an
Esteemed Citizen.

Died at his residence in Chatfield, at
2 o'clock Monday morning, Jan. 6,
1902, Robert Newton Etnier, of
Bright's disease and diabetis.

Last Monday morning the citizens
of Chatfield were surprised and
grieved at the announcement of the
death of Mr. Etnier. Although, he
had been in poor health for several
years past, his last illness was but of
short duration and his friends generally
had not realized that the end
was so near, for he had complained
little and continued in active business
almost to the last.

Robert Newton Etnier was born at
Logansport, Ind., Jan. 3, 1848. He
removed from Indiana to Minnesota
in 1878, first locating on a farm on
Murphy street, which is now owned
and occupied by Jas. Donahue. Mr.
Etnier remained on this farm only a
few years, when he disposed of it on
account of ill health, and removed to
Chatfield, where he engaged in the
business of selling farm machinery
and buying grain. After this removal
he remained here in active
business up to the time of his death.

'Besides his wife the deceased leaves
two sons, Harry and James, both
residents of this city, the former a
clerk at C. H. White's store and the
latter engaged in the Jewelry business.
Two surviving brothers,
James, of Logansport, Ind., and
John of St. Charles, this state, were
here in attendance at the funeral.
Another older brother who resides at
Logansport, was unable to make the
journey.

The deceased was a man whose integrity,
sense of honor and high moral
worth won for him universal respect
and esteem.

Mr. Etnier was a member of Meridian
Lodge, No. 56, A. F. and A. M.
of North Star Chapter, No 11, R. A.
M., and of Chatfield Lodge, No. 89,
A. O. U. W. The funeral was held at
two o'clock p. m., Tuesday, in charge
of the Masonic fraternity and attended
by the Workmen lodge and a large
number of citizens. The religious
services were conducted by Rev. B,
C. Gillis. The remains were laid to
rest in the Chatfield Cemetery with
deep sympathy for the sorrowing
ones who can only be compensated
in the life beyond.

Card of Thanks.

We desire to return our sincere
thanks to members of the Masonic
and Workmen Lodges and the entire
community, for the kindness and
sympathy shown us in the sad hour
of our bereavement by the death of
a beloved husband and father.
