Webster --- The funeral for Marilyn "Kay" Ackerman, 63, of Webster, died of natural causes Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at her home.

Marilyn Roth was born Sept. 20, 1937, to Dewey Sr. and Arlene (McMahon) Roth at Webster. She graduated from Webster High School in 1956. She then worked with the South Dakota State Employment office in Aberdeen.

She married Harold Ackerman on Oct. 19, 1957, in Webster. They made their home in Lead. They lived in Aberdeen and Tower City, N.D., before moving to Rapid City. They moved to Webster in 1970. In the 1980s and 1990s, she worked as a secretary at the Webster school and for various businesses in Webster, including New York Life, a church and Ackerman Tree Service until her health began failing in 1994. She also operated a fitness salon in her home.

She was a member of United Methodist Church in Webster.

She enjoyed calligraphy, poetry, making placecards and certificates, bowling and collecting jewelry, especially pigs and angels. She played the drums, accordion, piano and omnicord and played in a band called the Lady Bugs with her two sisters. She received the High School Shorthand Trophy.

Survivors include her husband of Webster; one son, James (Sandy) Ackerman of Webster; one daughter, Amber (Greg) Schimmel of Webster; one brother, David Roth of Webster; two sisters, Joan Mathiason of Aberdeen, and Joy "Lolly" Bauer of Webster; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Casketbearers will be Arlie Larson, Scott Bauer, Brian Larson, Dan Mathiason, Mark Bauer and David Roth Jr.
