Mr. Chavis passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at 7:00 P.M. in an Opelousas hospital.
A native of Church Point, Mr. Chavis was a lifelong member of the Catholic Faith. He lived out his faith as a member of Knights of Peter Claver.
Mr. Chavis served as a grandfather to countless children through the Head Start program, and he had worked as a custodian at Church Point High School for a while. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his sister, Edna Ann Broussard and husband, Patrick James Broussard of Carencro; and brothers, Ernest Bellard and wife, Esther of Oklahoma City, OK, Joseph Retell Bellard and wife, Thelma of Sunset, and Raphael Bellard of Church Point. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Preceding Mr. Chavis in death were his mother, Ella Mae Chavis Bellard; and brothers, Adam Paul Bellard, David Bellard, and Charles Bellard.
