Legal Tender Coxey Dies of Scarlet Fever

Father is Now in the West, and Cannot be Communicated With by Telegraph
Legal Tender Coxey, the seven-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Coxey, of Mt. Vernon, died at 6 o'clock Thursday morning at Coxiana, north of the city, where Mrs. Coxey and family have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Coxey for some time past. Scarlet fever was the cause of death. The child was ill but two days. Funeral services will take place Sunday and will be private. Interment will take place at the Massillon cemetery. The father of the deceased is now in the West and cannot be reached by telegraph. It is feared that he will not return for a week, at least. Legal Tender Coxey was born on Feb. 26, 1894, about a month before his father began his famous march to Washington. At the time of the child's birth Mr. Coxey was earnestly advocating a legal tender currency, hence the name.
