Alexander R. Brumfield, Jr. was called to his heavenly home on Thursday, August 16, 2018. He was born in New Orleans, LA in 1935 to Alexander R. Brumfield, Sr. and Bernice Brown Brumfield. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, matriculated to Xavier University of Louisiana and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. Post graduate degrees were obtained from Louisiana State University in New Orleans and Peabody College of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. Alexander was an Educator in the Orleans Parish School System serving as 5th grade Teacher at James W. Johnson and Florence J. Chester Elementary Schools, and as a Principal of Alcee Fortier Sr. High School and Paul L. Dunbar Elementary School where he retired. He was a life-long member of Pleasant Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Brother Brumfield was an active member of Prince Hall Masonry for over 60 years. Alexander R. Brumfield, Jr. is survived by his devoted life partner and wife of 60 years, Alfreda Dabney Brumfield; daughter, Michelle T. Brumfield, M.D. (Odell); son, Alexander R. Brumfield, III, Esq. (Candace); brother, Nathan A. Brumfield; brother in law, Ulysses Jones, Sr.; grandchildren, Kiara M. McClue, Sianna N. Brumfield, Olivia S. Brumfield, Leila C. Brumfield; beloved nieces, Jacqueline S. Langie, M.D. and Eulyssa J. Jones; nephews, Ulysses Jones, Jr. (Sheril), James V. Langie, III, James V. Langie, IV and Elisha Langie, and numerous other relatives, co-worker's, friends and associates. The Brumfield family would like to thank the staff of Veterans Administration Hospital, Tulane University Hospital, Acadiana Ambulance, Acts Home Healthcare, Inc., Pathfinders Health Care Inc., special acknowledgements to Dr. Baudy, Kathy, Darlene, Tracy Rachel, Johnny Adolph, Giselle and LaShay. Relatives and friends of the family, the Prince Hall Family, Delta Sigma Theta New Orleans Alumnae Chapter, co-workers and students are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Pleasant Zion Missionary Baptist Church located at 3317 Toledano St., New Orleans, LA 70125. Visitation will begin at 8:00 a.m. Interment Mount Olivet Cemetery.
