Jerimiah Woodman was born in Vermont on June 26, 1795. He moved to New York at an early age. Jeremiah Woodman enlisted in the War of 1812 at Concord, New Hampshire on July 27, 1812 and served as a private under Captain Joseph Treat in the 21st Company, US Infantry for a term of 18 months. Records reflect that he was sick at Sacketts Harbor on October 16, 1813. When his term expired on January 27, 1814, he was discharge at French Mills, At the time of his enlistment he was 18 years old. His general description was: 5 ft. 10 in., hair: brown, eyes: blue, complexion: light, occupation: farmer.
On May 21, 1817, Jeremiah Woodman and Cynthia Dillin were joined in marriage by Esq. Robison in the town of Brownsville, Jefferson County, New York. They were blessed with births of ten children.
As a result of his service in the War of 1812, Jeremiah Woodman received a land warrant. He was one of the first settlers of Richland County, Wisconsin. Land Warrant #8732 description is as follows: NE qtr of Sec. 35 in Township 10 North of Range 1. It consisted of 160 acres and was registered at Mineral Point, WI.
Most of Jeremiah and Cynthias's children also came to Wisconsin; some returned to Wolfe Island with Cynthia after Jeremiah's death.
Jeremiah died in Richland County, WI on May 1, 1867 at the age of 72 years and 10 months and is buried at Dayton Corners Cemetary in Richland County. A GAR emblem stands beside his gravesite.
