Mrs. Francisca Rubio de Berry, 76 years of age, native of Los Angeles, and the last of a family of twenty-five children, died from pneumonia yesterday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert W. Thompson, 7919 Walnut Drive, Florence. Mrs. de Berry had been ill only a week. Mrs. de Berry was born January 26, 1852, in a small adobe house at the location which now marks the intersection of Seventh and Alameda streets. She was baptised in the old Plaza Church. Francisca Rubio was the daughter of Jose and Juana Maron Rubio. Senorita Juana Maron was born in San Diego and married Senior Rubio who came to California from Spain. From this union twenty-five children were born, the third being Francisca, who was the last surviving member of the family. Senora Rubio died thirteen years ago at the age of 107 years. Formerly she owned practically all the area now known as Vernon. When she was 25 years of age Francisca Rubio married the late Fred Berry, a Los Angeles newspaper man, whose father, D.M. Berry, was one of the founders of Pasadena. From this union were born three daughters, who now live in Los Angeles. They are Mrs. H.D. Meyers, Mrs Robert Thompson and Mrs. C.E. Davis. Besides her daughters, Mrs. de Berry leaves six grandsons and one grand-daughter, all native Californians. In her youth Mrs. de Berry was very beautiful and was the belle of the Southland. She had seen Los Angeles grow from a pueble to the metropolis of the West and she manifested great interest and joy in the dedication of the new City Hall which she laughingly admitted, was "a considerably improvement over the city halls of other days."
