Bruce L. Blackmon, 60, entered into eternal life on May 26, 2012, from University Medical Center after a long, valiant battle with cancer. Funeral services for Bruce will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Forrest Heights United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ross Dunn, pastor officiating. Services are under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors. Visitation for the family will be this evening from 5 to 6 p.m. at Rix Funeral Directors. Born to Jim and D'Lyle Brooke Blackmon on March 7, 1952, in Plainview, he moved to Lubbock in 1955. He graduated from Lubbock High School and then from Texas Tech with a degree in fine arts. He had worked for over 12 years at Scoggin-Dickey and then was a home healthcare provider for a number of years. He was a member of the Forrest Heights United Methodist Church and was the audio technician for a number of years. He was a member of the Corvair Club of America. Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Jim, in 1996 and a brother, Grady, in 1991. He was also preceded in death by his longtime pet, friend and companion, Wolfgang Hashimoto (Hashi). He is survived by his mother, D'Lyle Brooke Blackmon of Lubbock; uncle and aunt, Col. Don Godfrey Brooke and Gayle Brooke; numerous cousins; and many friends.
