Nathaniel Burton Blount, 24, of Columbia, passed away from natural causes on Thursday, August 23, 2018, in the Chicago airport upon returning from a week of adventure in Switzerland with his mother.
Visitation will be at Missouri United Methodist Church Thursday, August 30 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. A casual celebration of life will be at Reynolds Alumni Center on Friday, August 31 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Please check ParkerMillard.com for more specific details on the Friday celebration of life. He was born Dec. 3, 1993. Nathan graduated from Hickman High School in 2012. He was a member of the a cappella choir, participated as a theater tech for many musicals and plays, and was the Drum Major for the Hickman Marching Band. His senior year he was inducted into the Kewpie Hall of Fame for Service receiving the Don Byers Service Award.
Nathan was a true Tiger. In 2016 Nathan graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. While at Mizzou he played trumpet with Marching Mizzou. He served as a tour guide as well as a training and professional development coordinator for the Mizzou Tour Team welcoming prospective students. In his senior year, he interned with Veteran’s United and was employed with them upon graduation. He held many positions throughout his three years with VU, and is currently employed as the Corporate Licensing Specialist at Veteran’s United. Nathan was an amazing son, brother, cousin, friend and co-worker. He is remembered for his incredible generosity, loving heart, amazing hugs, and spirit for life. He could connect with souls of any age and touched many lives in his 24 years on this earth. He loved music, theater, trivia, books, board games, Star Trek, Game of Thrones, Dr. Who and anything that enhanced his knowledge of the world. He loved all furry creatures especially his dog Ryker. He was an avid Cardinals fan and lived for Mizzou football...always the first to yell MIZ! He was truly a gift to this world and all he touched. As his friends have said, “We have lost a star here on Earth!” The incredible outpouring from friends and family on social media carried so many common themes emphasizing his smile, his big bear hugs, his gentle, kind and caring nature and his love for life. He was a friend to everyone he met and wanted to make the world a better place. He was described as a giver, a man who lit up the room, and someone who always knew the right thing to say or do for anyone in need. He was a humanitarian who saw the injustices in our own country and the world, working to make the world a better place. Many stated he was their best friend and commented that he made them better people. Specific sentiments expressed were: “My favorite gentle giant,” “a beautiful soul,” “contagious kindness and happiness,” “pure goodness,” “he enhanced the lives of everyone he came in contact with,” and “a fighter for what is right.” Nathan will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Dr. Robin Blount; father, Mark Blount and wife, Janice Morris; brothers, Dr. Lucas Blount and wife, Dr. Katie Blount, and Dr. Jacob Blount; and step-brother, Garrie Morris. Many aunts, uncles, and cousins that he was very close with also survive him. Nathan lived a life dedicated to service and helping others. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Project Semicolon which supports suicide prevention nationwide or Rainbow House which supports abused children locally. Arrangements are under the direction of Parker-Millard Funeral Service and Crematory; 12 East Ash Street, Columbia, Mo., 65203; (573) 449-4153. Condolences may be left online for the family at www.parkermillard.com.
