BURLEIGH DEAN BINNING, owner of the T Bar Z Ranch near Pinedale, in Sublette County, Wyoming, runs a herd of five hundred commercial grade Hereford cattle and raises sheep: His brands are T Bar Z and Z Bar T. Mr. Binning has a second ranch nearby. His total acreage of ten thousand acres includes irrigated hay land. Mr. Binning's father homesteaded the original 160 acres of their ranch in 1899. Mr. Binning and his father built up the ranch to its present extensive size by hard work, planning, and continuous purchase of land. Mr. Binning homesteaded in 1933, and this homestead is now incorporated in the ranch holdings. The irrigation system on the ranch is planned so that the entire property can be irrigated with a minimum use of a shovel.

Burleigh Dean Binning was born on March 31, 1912, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Burleigh Walter and Margaret Rogers Binning. Burleigh W. Binning was born in Dyersville, Iowa, on July 7, 1878, and passed away on August 1, 1947. Margaret Rogers was born in Pleasanton, Iowa, on March 17, 1879, and was married to Burleigh W. Binning in Rock Springs, Wyoming, on June 23, 1909. She passed away on January 13, 1964. Burleigh W. Binning homesteaded the original 160 acres of the present ranch in 1899, having bought a railroad pass to Opal, Wyoming, from Iowa. He freighted for Charles Bird and worked for Frank Fear in Big Piney, Wyoming. He also worked for the Cora Store when it was at its original location, on the present ranch. It was then a roadhouse and stage stop and was the original Cora Post Office. Burleigh W. Binning also served as deputy sheriff and deputy game warden. He passed away on August 1, 1947. Burleigh D. Binning attended a country school near here and schools in Pinedale, Wyoming. He was graduated from a preparatory school and attended the University of Wyoming for one year.

Mr. Binning married the former Josephine Henrietta Brooks, daughter of Joseph H. and Jennie Cooper Brooks, on June 6, 1934, in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Mrs. Binning was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming. She holds an A. B. degree from the University of Wyoming and taught in Rock Springs and Sublette County, Wyoming. Joseph H. Brooks was born in Quincy, Illinois. Jennie Cooper was one of the first white children born in Rock Springs, Wyoming. S he passed away in 1952. Joseph H. Brooks left home at the age of fourteen years and came to Rock Springs, Wyoming, where he worked in the mines for his uncle Pearson. Because of a broken wrist, he had to give up mining. He ranched in Meeker, Colorado, for a short time and then bought a ranch south of Rock Springs, Wyoming, where he spent the rest of his life and reared his family. He served as president of the Security Bank for eighteen years. He passed away in 1952. Mr. and Mrs. Binning are the parents of three children: Burleigh Dean, .Jr., Joella Jennie, and Willard Robert. Burleigh Dean, Jr., married the former Linda Tanner of Rock Springs. Joella is married to Ralph A. Dugan, and they have two sons, Allen, Jr., and Dale J. They had another child, David Allen, who is deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Burleigh Dean, Jr., have a daughter, Bonnie Lin. Both sons of Mr. and Mrs. Burleigh Dean Binning are members of the F.F.A., and both are members of the American Farmers. The Binning family is the only one in Wyoming to have the distinction of having two American Farmers degree, sons in the same family, and due to this fact, the father, Burleigh Dean Binning, received the Distinguished Service Award from the Wyoming Association of Future Farmers of America in 1966.

Mr. Binning is a former vice-president of the Boulder Farm Bureau, and he and Mrs. Binning are member of the Wyoming Stock Growers, Wool Growers, and Green River Cattlemen's Associations. Mr. Binning is a member of the Sublette County Historical Society board. Mr. Binning is a Mason, York Rite, and a member of the Shrine and the Eastern Star.

Mr. Binning has long been considered one of the leading ranchers in his area, and he and his fine family have contributed materially to the development of the stock raising industry of the state.

BROOKS-BINNING NUPTIALS AT R.S.
A wedding, lovely in its simplicity took place at the Congregational Church, at Rock Springs, Wednesday afternoon June 6, at 1:30, when Miss Josephine Henrietta Brooks and Mr. Burleigh Dean Binning, of this city, were united in marriage. Rev. Hubert Webster of the Methodist church performed the ceremony. The vows were exchanged before a small company of immediate relatives.

The bride presented a pretty picture in her formal gown of white satin, with which she wore long silk gloves and a corsage of pink rosebuds. Her sister, Miss Margaret Brooks, was bridesmaid, and wore a dainty frock of blue crepe, with a corsage of sweet peas and roses. The bride did not carry a bouquet, but instead carried a small bible, a family heirloom, which has been treasured by members of the Brooks family since it was first presented to Charles G. Brooks, an uncle of J.H. Brooks, by the Bible Society of Syracuse, New York, on Aug 23, 1862. It was carried through the Civil War, and is now in possession of Isaac N. Brooks. Willard Binning, brother of the Bridegroom, was best man.

After the ceremony a reception was held at th home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. brooks 112 first street, which was attended by members of the family. The dining table was covered with a lovely lace cloth and centered with a beautiful wedding cake, which the bride cut. Appointments were carried out in pink and white color scheme.

The wedding was the culmination of a romance which had its inception when the two were students at the University of Wyoming. The former Miss Brooks is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Brooks, pioneer Rock Springs residents. She was graduated from high school in 1928 and received her B.A. degree from the University in the spring of 1933. The past winter she has been part-time teacher at the Roosevelt school at Rock Springs.

Mr. Binning is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Burleigh Binning, of this city and are widely known residents of this section. He is associated with his father in the ranching business.

Mr. and Mrs. Binning are making their home at their homestead a short distance above the Burleigh Binning ranch on Willow creek. The best wishes of a wide circle of friends go with them
