Married February 7, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple, Joe and Alene built their family in Logan, UT, Ashton, ID, Flagstaff, AZ, Provo, UT and settled in Cedar City, UT with their 10 children, Brent (Loralyn), Rozan Gautier (Brad), Jolyn Russell (Craig), Jeffrey, David (Mari), Daren (Margie), Adele Onaga (Stephen), Sheri James (Al), Ben (Heather), and Michael (Shelly). From this large family 36 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren have been born into a welcoming and vibrant family.
Alene lived a remarkable life of service. She was a loving and involved mother. She was a wonderful neighbor and friend. She served tirelessly in church service and was an involved community member. Alene and Joseph's early retirement years were marked by five additional missions. They include: Denmark, Copenhagen (Iceland) '88-'90; Philippines, Cebu '91-'93; Austria, Vienna (Croatia) '94-'95; New Zealand, Wellington '97-'98; and Laie Oahu, Hawaii '99-'01.
Alene is survived by her children, siblings Ruby, Lewis, Wayne, Colleen and Shirley, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Alene will be held Monday August 27, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hyde Park 1st Ward Chapel (450 N. 100 W., Hyde Park, UT). A viewing will be held that morning 10:30a.m.-12:30p.m. at the same location.
