Earl Caleb Young grew up on a farm acquired in the 1850's by his Grandfather Frederick Young. In the years following his marriage and the death of his mother he purchased his sisters' shares of the land and owned some 340 acres. He was active in his community serving on the White Oak School Board, the Madison Township Board, the Board of the Farmer's Coop in Ridgeway, the Harrison County Soil District Board; was president of the Harrison County Farm Bureau. He was for many years an elder in the Ridgeway First Christian Church.
