MRS. JULIA W. LITCHFIELD

Akron Industrialist's Mother Taken; Funeral On Tuesday

MRS. JULIA WEEKS LITCHFIELD, mother of P. W. Litchfield, chairman of the board of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., died Sunday at her son's residence, 1010 Merriman rd., where for years she had made her home.

Despite her advanced age, Mrs. Litchfield never lost her keen interest in the business activities of her son, fine music, the theater and motion pictures and current events. She would have reached her 93rd birthday in January.

Mrs. Litchfield came to Akron to make her home with her son in 1914 after the death of her husband, Charles M. Litchfield, and throughout the years she was interested in the growth of the city. When the Rubber Bowl at Akron airport was constructed she made her own contribution and was one of its staunch boosters.

GRANDCHILDREN SURVIVE

Besides her son, she leaves two granddaughters, Mrs. Howard L. Hyde of Hudson and Mrs. A. Wallace Denny of Toronto, Can.; one grandson, Capt. Richard F. Bache, U. S. Army air corps, Wright Field, Dayton, and five great-grandchildren, Paul and Alan Hyde and Julia, Pamela and Peter Denny.

Her funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Tuesday at the home with Rev. B. Z. Stambaugh of Lorain, former rector of Church of Our Savior, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery, Boston.

Mrs. Litchfield was born at Bath, Me., Jan 12, 1851. She was married to Charles M. Litchfield in 1874 and moved to Boston where she lived until she came to Akron.

A prolific reader of news and current literature, Mrs. Litchfield retained the vigor inherited from her Yankee forebears. She always was well informed on current events through her reading and radio listening.

She delighted in receiving her friends in her home but true to her New England principles never wanted "any fuss," particularly on her birthdays.

Occasionally she spent the winter in Litchfield Park, Ariz., and until recently went to her son's summer home at Green Harbor, Mass., during the month of August.

Mrs. Litchfield loved the gardens at the Litchfield home and often enjoyed short automobile rides in this area.
