Dewey Everett Cox was born on August 17, 1930 in Tennessee, the son of Rosea Etheleen (Walker) (Hensley) (Cox) Austin (1909–2001) and her 2nd husband Herbert Laurent Cox (1906–1957).
Living at 2408 Brasher Avenue in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, he was 14 years old and a student at Bailey School when, on Mary 31, 1945, he was walking on the railroad tracks near the Richardson Street crossing and stepped off to let an approaching train go by. However, he was struck and killed by a train coming from the other direction. Burial was on June 4th in Spring Hill Cemetery in Madison {city, not county}.
