Anton Henry "Brick" was born Nov. 27, 1896 in Chicago, Illinois to Anton Lewis Ludvig and Mary Minnie "Gertrude" (Hillman) Branstad. His father was born in Christiania, Norway. As a young boy, he learned the violin, and would play it sometimes in the evenings, with his mother Gertrude at the piano, while his older brother Carl played the flute. The family was already living in Nebraska at the time.

He graduated from high school.

On June 5, 1918, he was living with his parents at Route #5, South Side, Omaha. He told the Sarpy County draft board that his father was born in Christiania, Norway, but that he was born in Chicago. He was currently working for the John Deer Plow Co. at 10th & Howard, Omaha.

Married Zella Wadsworth, a Nebraska girl.

From at least 1935 to 1942 Anton H and Zella lived at 4207 Pierce, Omaha, Nebraska. He was an auditor for disbursements for the railroad.

On April 27, 1942, this blue-eyed, brown haired man with a ruddy complexion walked into the World War II Draft Board office in Omaha. He was still living at 4207 Pierce St in Omaha, married, and working for the Union Pacific Railroad. The clerk noted that Anton was 5'8" and weighed 155 lbs.
