For the people who loved auburn resident Jodi Marie Blankenship, her tragic death last week may be a wound that will never heal, according to her former pastor, the Rev. Werner Lange.

"She just emanated joy, love and service," he said. "It is such a terrible, terrible blow."

Ms. Blankenship, 21, was stabbed to death April 19 at her off-campus home in Nelsonville in Athens County. A 2004 graduate of Kenston High School and Auburn Career Center, she was pursuing a degree in restaurant and hotel management at hocking college.

Her former boyfriend, Ronald Hendrickson II, 21, was arraigned Monday morning in Athens County Municipal Court and bound over the grand jury, Nelsonville police officer John Meeks said. He was charged with murder and is being held at the Southeast Ohio Regional Courts in Nelsonville, Mr. Meeks said. The grand jury was to convene Wednesday (April 18).

The Rev. Lange, who was Ms. Blankenship's pastor at Auburn Community Church sine 1995, said he watched her grow from a child into young womanhood.

"Jodi was a beautiful person, full of life and full of love,'' he said. "She was the daughter I'm sure parent would want to have and the friend everyone would want to have. She was a wonderful member of the church."

The Rev. Lange said Ms. Blankenship was also "crazy about cooking." She earned a 4.0 grade-point average at Auburn Career Center, where she majored in culinary arts. She graduated last year from Hocking College's culinary-arts program.

Auburn Trustee Patrick J. Cavanagh, a relative, recalled a birthday party Ms. Blankenship catered for his fathers 75 th birthday. "Jodi did the entire job of catering the food," he said. "That was the kind of kid she was, going above and beyond. She catered the party like an adult and was just 19 years old. She was a go-getter."

Mr. Cavanagh's wife, Ruth, said that Ms. Blankenship just"effervesced. She was bubbled. She always did."

Ms. Blankenship worked at several area restaurants, including the Chagrin Valley Athletic Club, Bell's restaurant in Burton, Mario's Spa in Aurora and Quaker Square restaurant in Akron. A clogger with the 4-H, she also loved line dancing an country music.

The Rev. Lange said she worked with the Sunday school at his church and volunteered there. "She went through confirmation class and was part of the activities we had in the church," he said. "She was always willing to help."

"She was a good kid, a real straight arrow," Mr. Cavanagh said. Memorial services were held Monday for Ms. Blankenship at Auburn Community Church.

She is survived by her parents, Rick and Debbie, and her brother, Nick, who will graduate this year from Kenston High School and Auburn Career Center.

"Her life touched a lot of people in the community," the Rev. Lange said. "When I was looking at the weather on the day of the memorial service, I had a feeling that heaven will mourn her loss."
