Frederick “Fritz” Berkenpas, age 83, of Grand Rapids, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 2, 2018.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn (Warners) Berkenpas; and by four of his siblings.
Fritz is survived by his loving wife, Betty; his children, Wanda (Bruce) Alkema, Glenna (Jay) Miedema, Lee (Debi) Berkenpas, Terry (Cheryl) Warners, Allen Warners, Ken (Carroll) Warners, Kristi Warners and friend Bill; many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren; six dear siblings and their loving families; and many extended relatives.
Fritz was a proud member of the US Army and was stationed stateside in the mid-1950’s. After the service, he attended barber school and operated his barber shop in Forest Hills for 40 years. Fritz was a faithful and long-time member of Cascade Fellowship Christian Reformed Church and loved to sing in the choir. During his free time, he enjoyed fishing and spending time at his cottage.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 7, 11:00 a.m. at Cascade Fellowship CRC (6655 Cascade Rd. SE, GR, MI, 49546) with Rev. Milton Doornbos officiating. The family will greet friends and relatives for visitation on Thursday, September 6, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Zaagman Memorial Chapel (2800 Burton St. SE, GR, 49546), as well as Friday morning from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at Cascade Fellowship CRC. Interment will be at Graceland Memorial Park.
