John Wm. "Bill" Smith was born on January 19, 1934, to Joseph and Nancy (Steen) Smith at home in Luther, Iowa. Bill Smith died at his home surrounded by his family on Monday, August 20, 2018. Bill's family and his many friends shared a Celebration of Life and a Luncheon at the Woolstock Community Building September 22.

Bill married Wilma "Betty" H. Wever on July 27, 1958, at the EUB Church in Ralston, Iowa. Bill served in the Army in the Korean War.

He started driving a truck for his Uncle Newt. at the age of 15 yrs. and became a career truck driver for many different trucking companies, mostly Kroblin, Greenfield, and 16 yrs at Webster City Custom Meats, retiring in 2013 because of a broken hip.

Bill enjoyed horses, deer, his cats, Hobo & General Lee. He especially loved spending time with grandchildren and all the neighborhood children.

Bill's family includes his wife, of 60 yrs, Betty; two daughters: Mary (Bill) Flippo and their daughters, Teri, Desiree, and Amanda of Alabama, & Tamie (Logan) Harrison and their children, Jamie and Mike and two stepchildren of Woolstock, Ia: Three sons: Tim, Sr. (Cindy) and their children Tim, Jr. & Cody of Cedar Falls, Iowa: Tony (Kari) and their children Vanessa, Jake, and Dallas of Duncombe, Iowa, and Troy (Anne) Smith and their children: Jesse, Reece, and Parker of Webster City, Iowa: 25 great-grandchildren and 2 gr-gr-grandsons: one sister Betty Mae Johnson, Denison, Iowa and one brother Richard of Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Joe Junior, and Charles.
