After a stint in the U.S. Navy as an electronics technician, he started working for AT&T as a telephone repairman. On Feb. 6, 1965, he married the love of his life, Grace Klingler, in La Mesa, Calif. Shortly after, he moved to Lake Tahoe, Calif., where he was an avid hunter and a member of the Jaycees.
In 1976, they transferred to Klamath Falls, Ore., with their two children, Curtis and Chad, where they proceeded to build their own home and start farming.
After 32 years with AT&T, he retired and began writing for the outdoor section of the Herald and News. He traveled the states and the world for the hunt and the story and would never turn down a good hunt.
Jack loved the outdoors, packing and hunting. Bow hunting was his passion and love, and was always willing to get anyone interested in the same. He was a life member of the Oregon Bow Hunters and later became the editor of the OBH magazine.
Jack was never one to remain idle. Not only was he writing and hunting, he always found time to create furniture, both standard and works of art.
He is survived by his brother, Jerry and Lori Elbert of Reno, Nev.; son, Curtis and Angie Elbert; granddaughter. Sierra of Chesapeake, Va.; son, Chad and Nikki Elbert; and grandsons, John and Justin Elbert of Bonanza, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace, of 45 years; parents; sister, Linda Cofer and brother, Jimmy Elbert.
