In 1961, Bobby joined the United States Navy to serve our country during the Vietnam War. He was stationed on the USS Quapaw Battle Ship, where he served as a military cook.
After leaving the Navy, Robert worked as a chef at various restaurants in Long Beach, Lompoc, as well as the famous "Toppers" and "White Elephant Steak House" restaurants in Taft, Ca. His last years working as a chef, was in Kernville, Ca until he retired. Not long after retirement, although not too far from home, Bobby finally made his way back to Bakersfield, Ca in July of 2012.
Bobby is preceded in death by his Father, Manuel Alderete and Mother Lucy Martinez Alderete. He is survived by his brothers, Manuel (Rose), Charlie (Loretta), Benji, Sammy (Judy) and Sisters Eleanor (Mike), Rachel and Rosemary (Ernie), as well as several nieces and nephews.
A sincere and heartfelt thank you to Manuel and Rose Alderete. They willingly opened their home to provide for Bobby, the last 6 years of his life, making sure he had nothing less than the best support and care. He was always so very grateful to have them as caregivers and family, but they were even more grateful to have had him as part of their everyday lives. He is already greatly missed.
Thank you to Dr. Sandhu, Dr. Nalos and all the nursing staff at CCMC, for always being so kind and providing exceptional medical care.
A viewing for Bobby is scheduled for September 10, 2018 at Mission Family Mortuary, 531 California Ave., Bakersfield, Ca from 4-7pm, with a rosary at 6pm. Burial services will be September 11, 2018 at the National Cemetery at 10am, with a reception to follow.
