James Howard Camp, 70, of Gilpin Township, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006, at his residence. He was born Nov. 5, 1935, in Gilpin Township, a son of the late Howard E. and Donna R. (Klugh) Camp. He was a plant guard at the Brackenridge Works of Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. for five years, before retiring in 1998. He was formerly employed as a supervisor in the laboratory at the West Leechburg Works of Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. for 37 years.

He served in the military police with the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 in Albuquerque, N.M.

He was a member of the Forks-Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Gilpin Township, a life member of the Leechburg Lodge, B.P.O.E., member for 49 years and fire chief for 27 years for the Gilpin Township Volunteer Fire Department, and was a member of the Armstrong County and Western Pennsylvania Firemen's Association.

James was a 1953 graduate of Leechburg High School and also owned and operated Camp Printing in Gilpin Township for 35 years.

His interests included hunting, fishing, baking, tying flies and watching TV Westerns.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Carol Ann (Nebelung) Camp; four sons, Larry H. Camp (Darlene), James C., Jeffrey L. and William R. Camp, all of Gilpin Township; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Beverly) Gray, of Leechburg; a brother, Charles G. Camp (Shirley); and a sister, Carolyn Smail, both of Gilpin Township.

Friends will be welcomed by his family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in CLAWSON'S, Leechburg, and from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral ceremonies at noon Wednesday in Forks-Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Gilpin Township, with his pastor, the Rev. Kevin E. Anderson, officiating.

Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.

Gilpin Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a service at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home, followed by an Elk service at 8 p.m.
