Mr. T. Gregory Mangieri, Sr. 69, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 11:05 pm Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at his home.

He was born October 5, 1948 in Galesburg, the son of Frank T. and Hulda “Totsy” Ellen Carr Mangieri. He married Sharon Wieder on August 22, 1970 in Flemington, New Jersey.

Greg is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sharon of Galesburg; his son, T. Gregory (Jackie) Mangieri, Jr. of Crown Point, Indiana; his two daughters, Lisa (Gabe) Herrera of Frankfort, Illinois and Becky (Tony) Vereecke of Hickory Hills, Illinois; his brother, Jeff (Pam) Mangieri; two sisters, Becky (Bill) Sheldon of Galesburg and Lori Mangieri all of Galesburg and four grandchildren, Steven, David, Olivia and Frankie. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Greg served in the US Navy for four years during Vietnam as a MM2.

He currently was the general manager for China Railway Materials (CRM) for 10 years. Greg spent over 40 years devoted to the railroad. He began at CB & Q, later BN, the Illinois Central Railways and then the Canadian National Railroad. He was a board member for the National Railroad Hall of Fame. Greg worked and served as president for GREDA. He was a member of the Chicago Traffic Club. Greg held all offices including president for the Intermodal Association of Chicago. Greg graduated from Costa Catholic School in 1966. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Lodge #894 and the Press Club. Greg was of the Catholic faith.

Greg loved the outdoors, bird watching, fishing, duck hunting, and boating. He was known to spoil his dogs, Cookie and Chloe and took daily naps with Chloe. He was a member of Lake Bracken Country Club. He also enjoyed woodworking with his brother-in-law, Bill and painting birdhouses with his grandchildren.

Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 am Monday September 10, 2018 at Abingdon Cemetery. Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate. Military Honors will be provided by the VFW, American Legion and AmVet Honor Guard. Cremation has been accorded. A Celebration of Greg’s life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Hinchliff-Pearson- West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements.
