Robert Harrell was born in Gates County, North Carolina. When young he was wild and dissipated, much given to frolicking and fun making. He married Eliza Webb, also a native of Gates County, North Carolina, who ran away with Robert to be married and never returned to her people; They and their children moved around 1825 to Warren County, Tennessee, and from there was reported in 1838 to be in Washington County, Arkansas. He followed at least two of his sons to Texas sometime between 1861 and 1869. He died in Hunt County, Texas in 1869, in the eighty-eighth year of his age. In early life he was a cooper; subsequently he became a farmer. At the age of forty-three he professed religion, and united with the Methodist church and became a very enthusiastic member, and from that date on to the time of his death he led a very exemplary Christian life. His wife, Eliza, died in 1868, in her seventy-sixth year, a member of the Methodist church. To Robert and Eliza Harrell were born these children -- John, Sarah, Nancy, Richard, Ann, Robert, Charles W, and Mary.
