THE PARIS NEWS, Monday, December 4, 1961, p. 2: “J. E. DAWSON. The funeral of J.E. Dawson,77, who died Saturday night, will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Fry & Gibbs chapel by the Rev. Edwin Davis, burial to be made in Meadowbrook Gardens. Mr. Dawson, who lived at 360-3rd NW, had been a shoe repairman. His death occurred about 11:10 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Hospital, after illness. Son of C.F. and Mollie (Golson) Dawson, he was born in Benton County, Arkansas, who moved to Fannin County, Texas, when he was a child. He was a Baptist a former IOOF member, and had lived in Paris since 1931. He married Miss Fannie Slayton, in 1905, and she survives, besides these children: Mrs. Ed Landers, Paris; Mrs. Ange1o Malo, Evanston, Ill.; Mrs. B. E. Garmon, Dola, Ohio; J.L. Dawson, Lubbock; W.V. Dawson, Denison, and J.W. Dawson, Midland; 16 other descendants; two sisters, Mrs. Laura Woodall, Lubbock and Mrs. Mattie Smith, Mobeetie and a brother, Albert Dawson, Port Arthur.
