Homer Craig Aikman was born December 18, 1923, in Pittsburgh, Crawford County, Kansas, the son of Albert Edwin and Thelma Annette (Brooke) Aikman.

Homer married Dorothy Helen Fleck on November 25, 1940, in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas. Dorothy was born March 3, 1922, in Sheboygan, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Christian and Sophia "Sophie" (Altergott) Fleck. Homer and Dorothy had the following known children:

1. Lynn Frances Aikman
2. Janice Annette Aikman
3. Rachael Lee Aikman
4. Albert Craig Aikman

Homer served with the U. S. Army during World War II from November 1940 to October 1945. Homer and Dorothy met while Homer was stationed at Fort Ord in California, and they were married shortly before he was sent into combat service. While Homer was away, Dorothy lived with her parents in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. In 1944, Homer was seriously wounded in action in France and was sent to England to convalesce.

Dorothy died May 22, 1979, in Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas. Homer died March 14, 2000, in Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas.
