Richard Lee Wilhelm, 89, passed away surrounded by his family on September 1, 2018. He grew up in Congress Park/Brookfield, Illinois and moved to Sarasota, Florida after retirement. He served in the Marine Corps prior to working for GM for 37 years. He devoted his time to his family and was involved in the Boy Scouts, Little League, Babe Ruth and Church activities and really enjoyed trips to the casinos with his sons after his retirement. He volunteered at Doctor's Hospital for many years and also volunteered every year at Ed Smith Stadium during Spring Training. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Louanne Schneider Wilhelm and ten children; Richard (Karen), Michael (Ellen), Thomas (Kathy), David (Patricia), Laurence, James (Helga), Elizabeth Duranceau (Earl), Matthew (Margaret), Peter, Charles (Elke). He was blessed with 29 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren who all loved their Poppa so much. We will all miss him, he was the joy of our lives. Private services will be held at the National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in memory of to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Shriners Hospital for Children or Tidewell Hospice of Sarasota.
