A Civil War veteran, he served two terms of service:
1. Enlisted in Tennille, Washington County, Georgia, February 22, 1862, with the 7th Georgia State Troops, an artillery unit, and honorably discharged in early May 1862.
2. Enlisted and mustered into Confederate service May 8, 1862, as a private with Co. D, 59th Georgia Infantry, and promoted to color corporal August 1, 1862. He was shot in the left thigh and captured at the battle of Gettysburg most likely on July 2, 1863. during fighting in the Wheatfield. Initially treated in the field, on July 22 he was admitted to East Walnut Street U.S. Hospital in Harrisburg where he died on the above date reportedly at 7:15 PM. Several documents in his compiled military service records created by Federal officials at the time of his death claim he had served with Co. E, but the only company mentioned in those records prior to his capture is Co. D. Photos of both tombstones are shown here. While the older stone uses Co. D, the newer one claims Co. E, which appears to be incorrect.
A Joseph Page who followed the same service path as Solomon matches a younger brother appearing in the 1850 census for Emanuel County, Georgia.
Monica Woodward provided much of the military information for the original post, all of which was confirmed from other sources, most notably Page's compiled military service records.
