Daughter of Hugh James Powers and Elizabeth Mary Tynan (1854 - )

No birth record has been found, but her brother Jerome was born in Dec 1892, so her birth in 1892 (as given on the gravestone) is unlikely. The 1900 census of Cambridge, Massachusetts gives her birth as Mar 1890.

After her father's death in early 1900, she lived for many years in Cambridge with her widowed mother and siblings. In 1900 her maternal grandmother, Ann Tynan, lived with the family. In 1910 her mother worked as a scrubwoman and Elizabeth was a stenographer in a printing office. In 1920 she worked as a stenographer in a hardware store.

She married Francis Edward Bartley on 15 Jan 1923 in Providence, Rhode Island. Their marriage record calls her a secretary and him a sales engineer. They had a child:

. Hugh James Bartley (1924 - 2020)
+ sp: Jean Schmidt
