Wilbur E. Decker Jr.

Wilbur E. Decker Jr., 75, Tampa, Fla., passed peacefully to Heaven on Sept. 8, 2018, at Woodbridge Care Center, Tampa.

He was born in Altoona, son of Wilbur and Jane (McIntyre) Decker. He married Regina Andrews in Corning, N.Y., on Dec. 27, 1975.

Left behind to miss him the most are his beloved wife of almost 43 years, Regina (Andrews); a daughter, Bethany, of Tampa; a son, David, of Oakland, Calif.; a granddaughter, Emma Rose "Rosie Posie," 16, of Tampa; and two brothers: David of Venice, Fla., and Mark of Altoona.

Wilbur graduated from Lock Haven University with a degree in English. He lived in Altoona until moving to Tampa in 2000. He was a well-loved English teacher, both in high schools and in the state prison systems of Pennsylvania and Florida. He was known for his passion for language, as well as his abhorrence of ending sentences with a preposition.

On the side, Wilbur ran "Double Decker Tours" out of Altoona, for many years. The hundreds of people who went on his bus tours over the years loved his entertaining stories of New York City, as well as the moment when he would jump on the bus dressed as the Phantom of the Opera. Every month, Wilbur would donate blood and was proud to have donated over 21 gallons in his lifetime. He was a faithful man of God who was always active in his church, where he could be found in a suit and tie, even on the hottest Florida days.

Wilbur had a fun and colorful life, but his greatest legacy is as a husband, father and grandfather.

Friends will be received at a Celebration of Life to be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, at First Baptist Church, 1209 17th St., Altoona, PA 16601.
