Laura Jane's first husband was James W. Ledbetter (1854-1909). The couple married in Burke County, N.C. on February 8, 1888. The 1900 census showed that Laura was the mother of seven children, with five living in 1900. By 1910, Laura was a widow who had nine children living out of twelve born. Per her obituary, James W. Ledbetter died in 1909. No obituary or burial location has been found for him. On December 1, 1912 Laura married David Pritchard at Table Rock in Burke County. The couple had a daughter, Laura Jane Pritchard, born September 13, 1916. The birth record is on file with Burke County Register of Deeds. The child may have died before 1920, since her name was not listed on the 1920 census with her parents and no additional information has been found for her. By 1930, Laura was living in Greenville, S.C. with three of her sons, James Bryant, Thomas A., and Roy Fillmore Ledbetter. When the 1940 census was made, Laura was living in Green River, Henderson County, N.C. with a married daughter, Ida Lucy Kate Hicks. Before her death in a Greenville hospital, Laura had been living with her son, Roy F. Ledbetter. Burial was in this cemetery, per the death certificate and her obituary.
