Thomas Scruggs Collier, 49, foreman of the shoe repair shop at Oklahoma State Penitentiary, died today in a McAlester Hospital. He suffered a stroke Feb. 4. He suffered another stroke late last year and underwent extensive surgery in 1950. Collier, whose home was at 350 West Monroe, was born Oct. 28, 1903 at Enterprise. He had been a resident of McAlester the 40 years. He was married to Miss Katie Mae Coleman at Marietta, Texas, Nov. 30, 1938. He was a member of the Baptist Church and the Elks Lodge. He had been employed at the penitentiary since Aug. 8, 1948. Before becoming foreman of the shoe repair shop 18 months ago, he was a guard on the front door and worked the sanitary laboratory. Survivors include his wife, a son, James T. Collier, McAlester; a daughter, Linda Kay Collier, McAlester and a sister, Mrs. Oma Martindale, McAlester. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church. Dr. Luther Joe Thompson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Chaney Funeral Home.
