Obituary for Esther Goldsmith--The Emporia Gazette-24 May 1999, p. 2 col. 4--The service for Esther Goldsmith, 91, formerly of 920 Walnut St. and a resident of the Holiday Resort care center, will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Patio Garden of Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The Rev. Norton Ritter of the First United Methodist Church will conduct the services.
Memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church may be sent to the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
Mrs. Goldsmith died May 20, 1999, at the care center.
She was employed in the office of the First United Methodist Church after the death of her husband until she retired. She was secretary and bookkeeper for the Lawrence Motor Co. until about 1960. Earlier, she taught elementary school at Miller and Allen.
Esther Caldwell, the daughter of Charles C. and Clista Mary Clausen Caldwell, was born April 26, 1908, at Plymouth. She attended Plymouth Grade School and graduated from Emporia High School in 1927. She attended the Kansas State Normal School in Emporia, where she received a teaching certificate.
She married Willim M. "Bill" Goldsmith on Nov 7, 1949. He died Feb. 1, 1976.
Mrs. Goldsmith was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was president and treasurer of the Women's Society of Christian Service. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Priscilla Club.
She is survived by a niece, Mildred Caldwell, of Emporia.
