Marlin John Sprengeler, 79, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Centennial Park in North Platte.

He was born in Watertown, S.D., on April 20, 1931, to the Rev. Walter and Margaret (Hunerberg) Sprengeler.

His mother died when Marlin was only a few days old. He spent his childhood mostly in the South Dakota and Minnesota area. He was a graduate of Dr. Martin Luther High School in New Ulm, Minn., with the class of 1949.

He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from January 1951 through December 1954.

He married Dorothy (Roker) in Hoskins on April 11, 1954. They were blessed with the birth of twin sons on Oct. 21, 1955, while living in Cheyenne, Wyo. The family moved to North Platte in June 1962 to become an employee of Walther's Midwest Office Supplies. He sold various products through his working years including cars for Swanson-Buick Pontiac and Rich Watson, advertising for the North Platte Telegraph, Platte Valley Shopper and the Bulletin. He also sold office equipment for Modern Office Methods and with his son owned Tidy Car. For 20 years he and Dorothy owned the Novus Windshield Franchise and traveled four counties repairing the stone damaged windshields for customers. He was an RSVP volunteer in later years.

His hobbies were old cars and wood carving.

Marlin is survived by is wife of 56 years, Dorothy; sons James (Karen) of Minneapolis, Minn., and John (Kara) of Eau Claire, Wis.; three granddaughters, Rachel (Aaron) Metcalf of Leavenworth, Kan., Hannah and Grace of Eau Claire; two brothers, Vernon (Sylvia) of Cheyenne, Wyo., Robert (Linda) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one sister, Ruth Hahn of Denver, Colo.; nieces and nephews. Marlin was an active faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother Emma.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 24,at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The committal service will be held at a later date.
