The Maytag Company in Newton employed her in production for 22 years. She retired in 1977 to actively pursue her personal interests.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, first husband, Herman Cupples Sr., second husband James B. Robinson, third husband Alvin George Schmitt, two sisters, Myrtle Lee Cupples and Flossie Cupples and her brother Thomas Woodrow Osborn.
Those left to honor the memory of Lula include four children, one step-daughter, one step-son, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several neices and nephews.
