Hiram Kemp Dies on Trip
COVINA - Hiram E. Kemp, 57-year-old former plumbing contractor here, died of a heart attack Saturday in the LaSalle Mountains near Moab, Utah, while on a deer hunting trip.
Mr. Kemp had lived in Covina many years. The family home is at 19250 E. Covina Ave.
Funeral services are to be held at 2 Wednesday afternoon but the place has not yet been selected.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon for Hiram E. Kemp, long-time Covina civic leader, member of the city Planning Commission, and rancher, who died last Saturday while on a hunting trip near Moab, Utah.
Mr. Kemp was stricken by a heart attack Saturday morning before going out on a hunt. With him were Glenn White, business manager of the Covina Union High School District; City Councilman Elmer Monia; and Bill McIntyre, well-known local contractor. This was the 17th consecutive year Mr. Kemp and White had gone hunting together.
A native Californian, Mr. Kemp was born Dec. 11, 1892, in Ferndale, Humboldt County, where he attended school.
He came to Covina 27 years ago and became engaged in ranching and operated a plumbing business here. In recent years, he has been a leading local subdivider, and he was named to the planning commission last year.
The Commission adjourned its regular meeting Monday night in his honor, praising his work done while serving on it.
Mr. Kemp was active in many civic affairs during his years here. He was a past president of the Lion's club; past master of the Covina Masonic Lodge; member of the Y's Men club; and of the Native Sons of the Golden West.
Mr. Kemp leaves his wife, Irene, at the family home at 19250 E. Covina Blvd.;
two daughters, Marilyn Kemp, who lives at the home, and Mrs. Thomas E. Hesketh, 840 E. Benbow, Covina;
two grandchildren;
his father, C. L. Kemp;
three brothers, John, D. C. and Pollard Kemp;
three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Stockel, Mrs. Mary Brice, and Mrs. Ruth Holmes, all living in Northern California;
and his sister-in-law, Lucille Bickley, also of Covina.
The Christian Science services were read at Covina Church of the Brethren, followed by Masonic rites at Oakdale Memorial Park.
