Newspaper Editor and Industrialist. Born in Iroquois County, Illinois to William Frank Pierson and Ella (Brelsford) Pierson. Joined the staff of the Chicago Tribune in 1912. In 1917, Pierson was named by Tribune owner and publisher Col. Robert K. McCormick to establish and publish an Army based edition of the Tribune for solider's serving in Europe during World War I. Following WWI, that paper went onto become the Paris Edition of the Chicago Tribune. In 1922 Pierson established the "Press Wireless" division of the Tribune in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the first such communication outpost exclusively for the transmission of international news in the world. Press Wireless was operated as "Tribune Wireless Service". In 1929 he oversaw the consolidation of the news industries multiple wireless operations, all under the umbrella of Press Wireless Incorporated. Pierson retired from Press Wireless as CEO in 1944 after being named Vice President of Communications for Raytheon Corporation of Boston, Massachusetts. In 1948 he retired from Raytheon to head up his families whole distribution concern in Los Angeles, California. In 1956 he was named as the CEO of Cherokee Chemical Company of Tulsa, Oklahoma from which he retired in 1960.
